Senior Transportation Planner

Location: Vancouver, WA

Otak is seeking an experienced Senior Transportation Planner to join our Vancouver, Washington office on an on-call basis. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned planning professional who enjoys solving complex transportation challenges and helping communities create safer, more connected, and more sustainable transportation systems.

In this role, you will support a variety of transportation planning projects for state, regional, and local agency clients, including long-range transportation plans, multimodal corridor studies, transportation policy development, grant support, stakeholder engagement, and project management.

We're looking for a self-motivated and collaborative professional with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to successfully deliver transportation planning projects in a consulting or public-sector environment.

How You'll Contribute:

  • Serve as project manager or task lead for transportation planning assignments.
  • Lead development of transportation system plans, corridor studies, active transportation plans, safety action plans, transit planning studies, and mobility strategies.
  • Conduct transportation analyses, including multimodal assessments, travel demand evaluations, and transportation impact studies.
  • Prepare technical memoranda, reports, presentations, and planning recommendations.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement efforts, including public meetings, workshops, agency coordination, and advisory committee meetings.
  • Support grant applications, funding strategies, and implementation planning.
  • Present findings and recommendations to agency staff, elected officials, and community stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior staff and provide quality assurance/quality control review of project deliverables.

The Strengths You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in community development, community planning, and/or urban planning or associated discipline.
  • 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in land use planning for public and/or private sector clients.
  • 8+ years of project management experience with demonstrated ability to lead complex projects, manage budgets and schedules and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven track record of producing technically-sound documents.
  • Knowledge of city and county comprehensive plans, zoning codes, development standards, and the implications on design.
  • Demonstrated expertise in preparing and/or reviewing detailed land use applications, including rezoning, conditional use permits, variances, and other complex entitlement processes.
  • Knowledge of Oregon Statewide Land Use Planning Goals and/or Washington Growth Management Act preferred.
  • AICP preferred.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience, qualifications, and work location as well as market and business considerations.

Pay range:  $65-$90 per hour
