CSA (Civil, Structural, Architectural) Engineer

Otak is hiring a CSA (Civil, Structural, Architectural) Engineer in Chesapeake, VA. The CSA Engineer will be responsible for executing the civil, structural, and architectural aspects of the construction phase, ensuring compliance with the project schedule, construction methodology, and quality requirements. The role involves working closely with multiple stakeholders, including the authority, supervision consultants, contractors, and the client, to ensure the seamless execution of project deliverables in accordance with design documents and the project implementation plan.

What you’ll do:

CSA Work Process & Schedule Management:

  • Collaborate with the Construction Management Project Control Team, Supervision Team, and contractors on CSA engineering tasks, managing civil, structural, and architectural works (including outfitting and façades) alongside the Supervision Consultant, designers, and contractors.
  • Monitor CSA schedules and progress, including design changes and partial handover schedules for client-procured construction and equipment, ensuring compliance with technical, quality, and safety standards.
  • Prepare periodic and non-periodic reports on CSA work progress, technical issues, compliance, and overall schedule performance, including baseline schedules, progress updates, and milestone tracking, in collaboration with the client and the Construction Management Technical Team.
  • Develop and implement procedures for the submission and approval of design, scheduling, technical, quality, and safety documents related to CSA structural works. This includes method statements, material approvals, manufacturer/supplier certifications, and construction schedules, while ensuring coordination with project stakeholders.
  • Assist in reviewing, approving, and refining project schedules, including the master schedule, procurement and installation timelines for long-lead items, as well as taking-over and partial handover schedules.
  • Collaborate on managing permit and license schedules for building completion certificates in coordination with the Project Coordinator and MEP Manager.

Design & Technical Management:

  • Review CSA designs for construction before issuance to the contractor and assist in managing CSA design elements, including the contractor’s shop drawings and as-built drawings, in collaboration with the Supervision Consultant.
  • Assess deviations between tender designs and construction designs to evaluate cost and time impacts, assist in preparing deviation reports, and support CSA change management concerning project budget and progress.
  • Contribute to value engineering and cost reduction investigations related to design changes, working closely with the Cost Manager of Construction Management.
  • Assist in preparing periodic reports on CSA work progress relative to the plan, change status, and submission and approval of technical issues.
  • Support the review and approval process for all technical issues, quality documents (including inspection test plans), and site logistics plans related to CSA construction, as submitted by the Supervision Consultant and contractors.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor's in Civil Engineering.
  • 5–10 years of experience working on construction projects.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a managerial position in Construction Management preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and coordinate progress, cost, and construction activities with project stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Primavera or MS Project and knowledge of safety management principles preferred.
  • Experience with large-scale manufacturing facility projects is a plus.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience, qualifications, and work location as well as market and business considerations.

Salary Range: $92,000 - $130,000 per year
